Wheel of time heavily favors the women characters in the books. There seemed to be a general feeling that the men were dumb and would be lost if the women were not there to hold their hand and tell them what to do.
There was one part at the end of book 6 I think where the main character, Rand, finally stood up for himself, the very next book they all went back to denigrating the male characters again. I got so infuriated that I had to stop later on. Several books feel like filler episodes with nothing really happening.
