This is a perfect display of human nature and the addictiveness of hate. Hate and rage is is addictive. Hence the prominence of rage bait media.
I experienced the same thing as a Christian. For much of my youth I excused and justified my hatred as "loving the sinner and hating the sin" and telling myself that even Jesus turned the money changers tables. This mindset has, for much of my life at least, been a problem in Christianity. Thankfully God showed me the error in this kind of thinking. It's not at all compatible with the gospel.
Leftism, as an ideology, doesn't protect anybody from this addiction. In fact, I'd guess it encourages it. They believe that utopia on earth is an inevitability and the only thing keeping it from us are the people who haven't accepted their gospel.
Of course you can convince yourself that you're a deeply loving person while living a life defined by hate. The people you hate are keeping literal heaven from everybody else, who you care so much about.
