It's all projection and a lack of empathy. And I don't mean either of those words in the way you typically see them used. What I mean is that there is a fundamental crippling flaw in the extreme majority of the Right in which they cannot see the world, or others in it, through a lens other than their own. Empathy does not actually have any connection to emotions or feeling sorry for someone, despite that being how the word is commonly used now. It actually just means being able to see someone else's perspective. And a huge portion of the right, functionally basically all of it, can't picture how someone else, a leftist in this case, views the world, sees right and wrong, and so on.

They have their own life and experiences that shaped their own worldview, the things that lead them to being on the Right, and they can only fathom the actions, thoughts, behaviors, desires, and intentions of others as viewed through that lens. In practice in cases such as this, since a person on the Right would be susceptible to accusations of hypocrisy, being called out for being demonstrably wrong, being shown their policy decisions lead to outcomes the opposite of what they intend, they view this as a universally effective weapon.

Like a vampire tying to kill a human by shoving a cross or garlic in its face. "It would work on me, so therefore it works". They can't fathom that the leftist is so inhumanly different in so many ways that literally nothing you think should be true, is true, of them.

All of the "Aha! Gotcha!" posts, all of the hypocrisy accusations, all of the "Heh, see how dumb they are" memes and tweets, all of the "We finally got the emails and the evidence that shows they were lying, that'll show em" bullshit that makes up like 90% of the Right's discourse, is all focused around that one concept. Those are things that we would care about, therefore we automatically assume they are things everyone cares about, and being able to look outside our own perspective and see that no, the left truly doesn't even register that stuff as mattering, is something that almost no one on the Right is capable of.

We care about hypocrisy, we care about logic, we care about making sense, about policies leading to outcomes that fit what we say openly we want to happen, and all the rest. So the Left uses that against us. But they don't care about any of that, and we keep getting mixed up trying to "catch" them failing to match what would be our standards, never realizing those standards were never theirs and never will be, and they in fact think our attempts to 'gotcha' them into a corner are hilariously naieve and amusing.
