I'm not saying there are not backdoors, but Chinese AI models are also in most cases open source. Someone can look for backdoors.

Then there's the other scenario, let's say closed source and cloud based. I mean I don't want the Chinese government to have anything on me either, but it's much less actionable against me too. If they've decided I'm a racist and not progressive and pro government enough, they can sit over there in China and think it, or I suppose they could sell it outside of China. In the US, it's only a matter of time before it's used against me. Even if I'm not going into any sort of social credit conspiracy, it will be sold to corporations as data as much as possible. Ask about a movie, guess what is advertised to you. Ask about how to fix your car after a crash....it's on an insurance company report. The thing is China has only risk of using it against me, and American corporations have shown time and time again to have done it, and then say yeah we will do it again.
