But it suits the powers that be to make things be about individuals. Soon Trump will be gone, and they can pretend that the new guy doing the same bad things is completely different.

Nah, as a Canadian who sees TDS all the time, he's spot on.
Most people that hate him are vooters; they don't do shit for four years, then vote, then sit back in smug self-satisfaction at having "done their duty".
Trump comes along and acts like a total jackass but doesn't break any rules, demonstrating that the system itself is completely corrupt.
They hate this, because it means they're complicit in the corruption just by participating. But they're too pathetic to take any other action than vooting, so they take out their impotent rage on a foreign leader.
We just passed bill C-9 a few weeks ago, which allows the police to arrest people for "hate speech" online and, when I bring it up, they start talking about the stupid green reflecting pool.
Because our system hasn't failed and our country isn't falling apart; Orange Man is just bad.
