I hadn't noticed that. I mean I'm sure he was boomercon but a lot of them still had enough to run their business properly.
Funny enough I got irritated to the point with Home Depot about that same time in that I don't go there. I'm not spending my dollars somewhere I'm treated like a criminal trying to steal a $8 screwdriver having to find a grouchy employee to unlock it from something and walk me to the front to pay for it, and I don't give a fuck if it's because crime is let run free in California and they are trying to stop the loss. The ones I'm going to are the edges of the most white suburbia in Texas, let me shop the actual store and post a guard with an AR at the door and problem would be solved if it even exists.
After covid they never rehired people in my town. So it's understaffed, and always a huge line to self-checkout. It takes minimum 5 minutes to just check out because they closed ALL the registers. It's been years and it's still this way. They also put up FLOCK cameras. Fuck home depot. This video proves them to be traitorous.
Tools at Harbor Freight may not last as long, but they're a fraction of the price. And the experience shopping there isn't dystopian.
Funny thing about tools too, huge amounts of it is Chineseium whether Harbor Freight or Home Depot or whatever. Almost all the store brand stuff is and a good chunk of the rest of it. Yet Harbor Freight at least has a reputation of being pretty simple about free replacements on all that stuff, where as I think it was Home Depot (maybe Lowes) that tried to get me on something that broke because like the part number had changed for clearly the same item.
One good thing about home depot though is that if you get their credit card, they send a 10% entire order coupon in the mail once a year. Depending on the project, that could be a huge amount of money saved.
The founder dies and 2 years later they already shifted
