What probably happened is he had a kindof interesting story he put lots of work into that nobody would care about after she left office, heard through the grapevine she was leaving, so demanded answers by '5 pm' so he could use the implication that she resigned because of his investigating to sell the story. Which he did.
As far as cult leaders go, he was pretty reasonable, saying stuff like stop the dirty war on Syria.
