It's easy to build a car... if you have some of the parts & a pre-built motor & transmission. And the tools to make parts from scratch, and the skilled technicians to assemble them. Easy! Just 2-3 years, tops. This is to meet all the safety laws, of course. Unless an A-Bomb is built perfectly? It won't go boom properly, there's no "half-assing" them like using some duct tape to hold your busted side-mirror on.

You're imaging some Weimar-era cast iron centrifuge and how hard it would be using that, when in the real world they're using magnetic levitation bearings and countercurrent multiplication - neither of which existed at the time - and tons of advances in materials and controls.

Only 1 (one) nation has built a Bomb from scratch. Russia stole critical designs & gave them to China too. Russia actually came closest, everyone else got a major "leg up" from an existing N-power.
If it is so simple? Why hasn't a corporation built one from scratch? A rebel group? Any rogue nation? Even Iran depended heavily on outside knowledge and they still don't have a Bomb after a decade of dedicated, very expensive effort.
I'm not claiming it's impossible DUH! It has been done and could be done again, obviously. But without the shortcuts it is a massive effort. ie: difficult.
