I only briefly skimmed it but my takeaway was:
J.R.R. Tolkien would love for your country to be overrun by invaders, you racist.
I don't think he had enough conviction to go that far. It was more when Tolkien talked about only suitable people should handle dangerous things, he didn't mean rich white dudes. The author really doesn't defend the position all that well.
It's true but Tolkien lived in a white, Christian England. He wouldn't have liked the kind of measure that would have to be taken if the orca would have been allowed to take up residence in the Shire for 60 years. It's too late to say "give up your power and embrace a peaceful life".
I've seen a lot of people try to use Tolkien as their new source recently. I think the new pope is a fan. They view the world like Saurumon did. They are the great multicolored wizard who can change the world to the better because he is better than everyone else.
