Yeah, the color thing for printers and how Bambu Labs seems to be fighting it is very interesting. Basically, in TableTop the centerpiece is figures you buy and paint. If you can print out what you want in fully color then the entire industry goes under. So, they claim it's Guns but really it's stuff like Battletech and WarHammer. Heck, the toy industry in general. I think I even have articles on printing stuff like CPUs. Imagine printing a Wii or PS2 and you have a good idea what is happening.
Yeah I hadn't kept up with the politics of it all. I have a Bambu Lab but I sort of bought it knowing those downsides but wanting the modeling and testing learning over worrying about printer politics. I'm mostly interested in building functional things, with the longer term thought being able to design and replicate plastic car parts or something like that, or just functional items. My desk is a lot cleaner now that I basically made a lot of the features of that fancy Herman Miller desk in another post myself. I might try out FreeCAD from one of your links so I can get off Fusion on Windows.
I can totally see where the toy industry would be pissed. I don't know a ton about tabletop (I thought it was book, some special dice, and imagination myself). If those little figures are super important then yeah they will soon become trivial to 3D print. I was already looking if my nephew comes here this summer he likes chess and you can pick from tons of different chess sets or we could make our own design. I bet I could make functional tabletop figures with the simple budget setup I have already. I just haven't tried any such things.
D&D doesn't need it unless you go a little more hardcore. Warhammer has it as a requirement. Games Workshop is always trying to stop 3D print sites from exact replicas.
Makes me more happy I like playing cards then where the investment of consumption is low. I see some of this sometimes and I guess normal non-pozzed people still play these tabletop games but I never got into it. Made me think though, I play things like poker, and that's the same idea in general. Math game with friends at least.
