I wouldn't call what passes for “American talent” these days top tier. I get the point you're making but slop peddlers reaching the heights they do in the entertainment industry is a symptom of the cultural decay you're pointing out.

There’s still exceptional talent out there, it’s just mostly older and aging out now sadly. When the music industry killed rock they pushed slop hard.
