Up until 1913 the US government funded itself with tariffs.
It took Wilson going to War in WW1 for income taxes to really start, and it wasn't until WWII until employer withholding started.
Want to fund the US government? Impose mandatory wage and environmental law arbitrage tariffs on all imports. Let China treat its workers like crap, and ignore all environmental laws, they get to pay for it when they export their garbage here.
I pay over $3k a year in property taxes, and yes, it rankles me that non-payment can get me tossed out of my house. Primary residence should be OFF LIMITS for non-payment. File a lein on the property, garnish my wages, but my house is off f***ing limits.
And the local government funded itself with property taxes. I agree that house seizure is insane versus a lien or garnishment, that’s one part of property taxes that needs to be eliminated.
