The Elise is a meme because it uses a Toyota engine, but in terms of its purpose, it's a more powerful, British version of a Miata

The toyota engine is a positive, I don't see why that would make it a meme. I'm also not sure why you're choosing the Miata comparison when the Elise is much closer to an MR2.
