I do think he has a point. I don't think the recording point is about surveillance in the security sense. I think his point is everything you do, if you make a fool of yourself, it will be posted on the internet and you will be relentlessly mocked for it. I suspect this applies even the most to somewhat awkward white guys.
Honestly, I felt some of this even before. I hated pictures of everything when I was a kid, because family would dig them out later and full on make fun of me knowing how much I hated it. When you're beating someone down you're supposed to care about and calling it fun, it's really not fun at all.
But as far as mating, it's feminism anyway. The other part of the recording point. Soon as they get the ick with you, they flip whatever they've recorded around into look at this weird guy you tots need to take him for everything he's got just for making you put up with being around him.
