Same thing happened in Toronto too. Tested the system in high-gunfire neighborhoods, it worked well, they scrapped it because it "targeted minorities" disproportionately.
There is some validity in the argument that it drives "crime rates up" a little due to false positives. A 'bang' noise that gets counted as a gunshot. But these were bad neighborhoods to begin with :/
