The money spent on a candidate no one voted for gives the illusion of the possibility he could win.
And think about the phrase "spend money on a candidate". The candidates don't keep the money; they spend it on, hmm, (((advertising))).
No doubt half the money "spent on candidates" goes right back in to the power network.
