Bungie became too greedy and when a company becomes too greedy, they start sabotaging themselves. The greed backfires actually because it gets in the way of creativity and other things. And they ruin their reputation. Everyone sees them as like parasites now who will fuck up any game they make over time like they did with Destiny 2. So they ruined Destiny 2 with their greed. Then Sony bought them. And then created some multiplayer shooter slop when there is already tons of multiplayer shooter slop out there that is 10000 times better. That looks like Unreal Engine slop. So gamers were like "Pass." on this one. Reputation is very important.
If you played Destiny 2 when it came out, you would know that Bungie are infamous for constantly cutting good content out of it in order to sell more shitty content to you. They also don't respect people who buy their games if they are doing this shit. Gamers don't give a shit about the name Bungie anymore. When I think of Bungie, I think of douchebags butchering my game. Reputation is very important. It's what determines whether gamers will spend 70 dollars on your game or 5 dollars on it or will pirate it or ignore it or instantly shit on it. Customers need to be able to trust you somewhat. And know for sure, they are getting their money's worth. And most gamers are not rich or wealthy so 70 dollars is a lot of money for them. Only spoiled rich and wealthy CEOs who are out of touch with most of the world think 70 dollars is peanuts money for most gamers. Just because gamers are able to spend hundreds or thousands on gaming hardware doesn't mean they have tons of money to spend. And are not frugal. So companies will have to earn that 70 dollars with their reputation.
It's a pincer attack from both the greedy execs and the woke devs. Bungie can still generate quality gunplay because that is likely the focus for all remaining competent devs. The diversity hires are obviously tasked with art and story, which is why all of that stuff is super gay. Then you have the raw parasites who promote various political and identity initiatives. Finally, you've got the execs pointing everyone towards predatory business models. So like 25% of the company is aimed at making a fun game, 25% is aimed at MTX, 25% is aimed at lame art and story, and 25% is aimed at leftist activism. No wonder it costs $250 million to create three levels, one mode, and decent gameplay.
