Mixtape came out yesterday. It's a 2-3 hour long walking sim that features all teenage girl protagonists and preys on 90s nostalgia. It's already one of the highest rated games of the year.
Every review gushes about the licensed soundtrack, which has nothing to do with the actual game. Every review also begrudgingly admits that there is almost no gameplay in this video game.
Oh, and there are fewer than 2k people playing it on steam. Plus it runs like total ass.
Now we just need a series of coordinated articles attacking gamers and we'll be right back where we started.
I just watched the trailer. It doesnt seem to be marketed to me and it doesnt seem to be made for me. Its not even a genre I enjoy. Its a meh from me. Every review (positive and negative) read like they are ChatGPT when in long-form.
My major complaint with Anita was she was pushing to take established IP and warping it to the modern audience crew. If they make original content like this and market it that way then its welcome to sink or swim in the market. Was is funded with tax dollars like some other games? Id have an issue with that if its the case.
It was made by an Australian studio, I don't know if they used tax money.
