I like the shutter model, but goddamn is the horror genre cucked. Every new "good" horror movie is a thinly (or not at all) veiled feminist thinkpiece about female trauma or muh patriarchy. It's gotten to the point where I check for a female director or writer before I take a chance on any original horror flick.
I just rewatched season 1 of Tales from the Crypt and afterwards was thinking about the show and how horror has evolved over the years. Then I figured I'd rank the episodes, and it was then when I thought about it, they were full of feminist ideas if you look hard enough (and I did).
And spoiler warning for a 37 year old show.
Every single episode in season 1 has a woman murdering a man. And in only one of those cases do we see her presumably face any kind of punishment for it. Of course the overwhelming majority of characters are assholes or scumbags, so you're not supposed to care that they got killed, but it's still a strange thing to notice.
It's always been cucked. There's a reason there's a trope called The Final Girl. Every horror director is some fart sniffing champagne socialist talking down to regular movie goers.
Too true. My favorite horror movies of the last several years have been mostly cosmic. The Empty Man, the Void, etc. I like shit that's real and not some manifestation of muh inner female turmoil.
