No, on a person to person manner. Talk to a servicemember who is/was stationed in Germany. The Cold War would never have been won if West Germans had substantial resentment towards Americans.
Resentment wasn't even allowed. Nobody with half a brain would have openly shown his resentment to the Allied occupiers. The Germans were forcibly re-educated. There was no free press. Literally every newspaper needed to get permission of the intelligence agencies to even operate.
So considering these circumstances and that the Germans were rather glad that the war was over and they weren't bombed every day anymore and they had to deal with a massive influx of refugees and had to rebuild their entire country... yeah they were not showing their resentment for the occupiers because they neither had the time nor even the opportunity for it without getting in a whole lot of trouble.
The Cold War was 'won' because the Soviet Union collapsed. West Germany had nothing to do with it. The Stasi even had operatives in the highest echelons of NATO. If it had come to a shooting war it would have become very nasty very quickly.
You think speech controls effectively suppress personal resentment? Consult history to see what people act like when they truly don't like their occupiers. Roman-ruled Judea, Ukrainian-ruled Donbass. Even in complete peacetime it's very obvious.
The fact that people were constantly fleeing into West Germany from communism into capitalism is in fact a massive reason why the Soviet Union collapsed. One side won the economic war, the other one lost.
Not just speech controls. 24/7 brainwashing too.
Neither are comparable with West Germany.
Germany was divided, under military occupation, brainwashed to hate itself while being blasted with Cold War propaganda. Considering that the German people aren't exactly known for being rebellious and they just were victims of the greatest ethnic cleansing and destruction Europe had ever seen it's not exactly surprising that the Germans simply tried to make the best of an awful situation. It's not like the topography of Germany would have enabled guerilla warfare or anyone would have supported them anyway.
So the generations that did resent the Allies would have known better than to openly show that resentment and the following generations were brainwashed into thinking they were the offspring of evil doers while the Allies were their liberators.
Now obviously the US didn't go for the openly oppressive military occupation like the Soviets did but it was still an outright hostile military occupation with the goal of destroying the German identity. So saying West Germany had good relations with the Allied nations while said nations treated West Germany like caged wild animal that needed to be domesticated is a bit ironic.
Also in case you didn't know the purpose of the EU was also just to exploit the economic potential of West Germany and control it. Germany has never been treated as an equal since the end of war. It hasn't even been a sovereign nation since then and it is still factually under military occupation.
No. It was merely a symptom of the reasons for the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Also the US occupation has caused far greater damage to mental and ethnic well being of the German people than the Soviet occupation. Which leads us right back to the brainwashing in West Germany.
In the end, this just leads back to the fact that everyone's been brainwashed about the prewar conditions of WWII. One could argue that the Germans got the short end of the stick as far as white guilt, but then again every European country has mass imported nonwhites to eradicate their white population, so they aren't even unique in that regard.
Since Germany wasn't Holodomered, I guess this is true. Strange how that works.
