Edit: Spider-man used to be a Randian hero. The point of the character was that by living a righteous life, even if it meant short term sacrifice, you'll eventually build a fulfilling life through self-discipline: Peter marries MJ and finds a balance between his responsibility and his personal fulfillment.

Nowdays spider-man is just glorified martyrdom, they want to make you think being a good person means letting people walk over you, the world will always be unfair to you but you have to suck it up and be happy because "privilege" or something, and a bunch of diverse nobodies (ie Miles, black pregnant Spider-woman, etc) are entitled to leech off your legacy because "It's their turn"
