The gun grabbers do the same thing in the US. You have to understand that the very idea of holding individuals responsible for a crime is anathema to these sorts, because they look for systemic causes for everything. To them, this crime happened because the system failed, not the person, so the only thing they can think to do is alter the systems to prevent it.

So rather than blame the individual that featured in a Blackrock ad (I think I'm remembering that right) and would point to MASSIVE institutional failure where he could commit this act, the recommendation is supporting a ban they couldn't pass democratically.

I wonder why his party is going to get ANNIHILATED in upcoming May elections...

They don't want to just solve the problem by removing the criminal elements, because they consider themselves part of the criminal element, and wouldn't want to set up anything that could be used against themselves. Much better to harass, harm, annoy, and violate the rights of the law-abiding and innocent, because that's a group they'll never associate with or be a part of.
