The fact so many of these 20 year old shows have been brought back just highlights how incapable the current crop of showrunners are at creating something.
Malcolm in the Middle, Scrubs, who knows what else since I dont actually watch tv. The other current popular TV shows are Invincible and The Boys, both comic adaptations which still require using other existing material for inspiration, and while Invincible is vaguely following the source material, both are complete garbage.
Things Invincible has changed are,
Mark is now half Asian, because his mother is now Korean or something because of the VA. Thank goodness they also managed to get a real life non terrestrial alien to voice Nolan to keep this trend. Oh wait, they didn't so that, they got J K Simmons.
Mark's first girlfriend was blackwashed, which has hilarious consequences of her later being beaten up by her next bf.
Techjacket, the blue beetle character, was genderbent and also nerfed so badly even if the character was still a dude there would be complaints because at various points in the comic TJ effortlessly stomps the invading aliens. In the show the girl version gets turned into Yamcha.
Rexplode was made Hispanic, which also means Rudy is now Hispanic because he clones a body from Rex to use himself. Rudy in the comic literally ends up looking like a full haired Lex Luthor with bright orange hair, beard, and green eyes.
And all this is before getting onto the point about how bad the animation is, something a lot of adaptations suffer from now, like One Punch season 3 which was rightfully mocked for how bad things turned out.
Worse still you still have sycophants defending this because it still means getting a season every year.
There's loads of origninal programming if you care to look for it. Seeing the top 40 of TV will make you believe that everything is a reboot, but there's a lot of unique shows being produced.
True, lots of programming and lots of older stuff I’ve never seen which for a retro person like me is great. Growing up in the 80s and 90s I missed out on a ton of those shows alone due to not having access to the remote as often as I wanted. Although I saw an ad for yellowjackets and lgbt stuff isn’t my thing but when I had HBO I did see the first season of Barry and liked it
Oh man, the first season of Barry is great, but the rest of the show is awesome. It gets gritty and raw while still maintaining the humor.
As for Yellowjackets, the one gay relationship is a pretty minor element. Like, the two girls are dating, but there's not much more beyond that in terms of plot. It's just treated like a normal relationship.

I have HBO Max now so I may just start Barry from the beginning. I’m also currently going through the original Outer Limits and and the 90s revival
