Housing has been a fubar for a while. Most companies are actually part of one big one. Any attempts to make cheaper housing gets stopped by governments, or remade by the housing company at a larger price. Tiny Homes seem to be following that line right now.
Honestly, I wish companies like Universal and Disney had people in charge of housing. They set high standards and constantly inspect. If anything goes badly, they'll test and rebuild if they have to. If there are six requirements for a building and you only need to follow one, most builders will follow a half assed one. The big theme park guys will aim for all six. It's not perfect, but it's way better than what we have outside of it.
On the other hand, there is a lot of ego involved.

You ever watch the home inspectors on youtube? These builder(s) have constant issues, one of the big ones being improperly sealed gas fittings.
So, even if enough houses are built, they'll all be substandard.
Yeah, don't do that. I love watching those.
