Ukraine shot themselves in the foot when they gave up their nukes. The country has two choices now. Bow down to Western Europe or bow down to Russia. Ukrainian sovereignty does not exist. The West gives you the illusion of sovereignty while they force all your politicians to enact all the same laws and culturally dominate you. You get to keep your flag and say you're Ukrainian but before long the Indians and Muslims will overrun your country while claiming to be Ukrainians. Hardly, sovereignty. Russia isn't any better though because Putin promotes his own brand of multiculturalism. The West has the allure of wealth but that's significantly fading as an advantage over time. The logical and most reasonable thing for Ukrainians to do is to not fight because they'll just get killed for 0 gain. The West that is promoting this proxy war is doing nothing to benefit Ukrainians. It's Ukrainians who have the most to lose and nothing to gain, meanwhile the West is gaining tactical information and buying themselves time to build up their military at the expense of sacrificing Ukrainians. The war is pointless for Ukrainians because either way, they don't have sovereignty and both empires suck.
