I doubt it, they probably just changed how it’s measured. It used to be fashionable to have mixed/non-white kids, so that’s how it was reported. Now they’re probably calling more people white since it’s fashionable, even if they’re really mixed with something else

Was at DMV few weeks back and girl asked front desk woman, “should I check off ‘other’ since I’m 25%-35% Dominican?” The woman told her you can just check off “white,” which could be standard practice, but I have no idea, So maybe seems entirely possible what’s going on as well
