It's one of those where the sum is greater than its parts.
It isn't terribly challenging once you understand that the best way to deal with nearly every enemy is to hack it apart with an enchanted sword of some sort, and the puzzles aren't super deep or tricky.
But the atmosphere and sound design and general sense of unease make it one that I've gone through at least once every 5 years or so since it came out.
