I’m not sure if I agree. Right now China can just sit back and sees how this plays out before deciding what to do or not do. Things are too unpredictable right now for them it’s not their style especially when they are content at the moment waging wore through economics (buying land in USA, houses, businesses, etc) and getting their children over here on student visas plus having surrogates come over and have anchor babies to be trained in China and sent over here later on. Plus all the minerals for computer parts they are hoarding. So they probably rather see how things shake out and if they are considering action on Taiwan they likely see that there’s no rush the way things are going and every day that passes makes it better for them. Plus why interrupt us when we are making a mistake?
Also data collection on US military weapons. Since the next full war will be drones and misses, frequency hacking and interference will be the best defense.
They had a surefire shot in the mid 2000s (not sure why they didnt make a move). They probably would have won in the 2010s. But Taiwan's defense is too solid now, China would need to bombard the island for months and even there, a landing is not really possible.
Taiwan's defense against invasion is top notch. Also, semiconductors. If Taiwan destroys its factories (which it will if it starts losing) the world is literally fucked, way more than some strait in the middle of nowhere)
You are correct, IMO. China can't take Taiwan through military. They're going to engage in informational warfare until there's enough people in Taiwan who want to be part of China and buy the politicians off. Taiwan will "willingly" join China in time. The weaker the West gets, the easier it is for China to accomplish this goal.
The only issue with that is that Taiwan KNOWS what is going on, they saw what happened to Hong Kong, they know about social credit and all that bullshit, and population will not get gobbled up easily.
a lot of our weapons are being used up in ukraine and iran... china would be idiots to NOT attack and take taiwan.

China cannot take Taiwan.

Xi already announced that they are going to sometime next year.
