Should have specified, neocons have been planning a second “amnesty” wave for over a decade now. Reagan and Bush Sr were both pro amnesty as well and the Con Inc mouthpieces made every excuse available to say Reagan was “conned by the Dems” despite Reagan openly saying he supported amnesty for illegals in a debate with Mondale years before signing the amnesty bill.
The Dems were supposed to help solve the border security problem in exchange, which of course they never did. If he was conned he wasn't all that upset about it judging by the behavior of himself and his Republican successors.
That’s always the repeated line. It’s not real, you would have to be the biggest idiot on the planet to just hand amnesty to millions and expect the other party to “honor” a supposed agreement that was never in writing.
To be fair "the biggest idiot on the planet" is a pretty apt descriptor of the GOP. I suspect the deal "existed" with the full understanding of everyone involved that the Dem side of the bargain was never going to be fulfilled. That's been their MO for a long time. We saw echoes of that very recently when Trump gave up all our leverage by funding everything except DHS.
As I said to the other guy I suspect he made a show out of being "conned". They pretended to offer concessions and he pretended to believe them. It's been their MO since long before any of us were born.
