I did some googling to try to find out more about this, since the video posted is in Portuguese and I don't speak Portuguese.
But this is adding to an existing racism law in Brazil.
The fight against discrimination against women may gain a new legal instrument with the inclusion of misogyny in the Racism Law. A bill to that effect was approved by the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ) this Wednesday (22). Accepted by 13 votes to two in a final vote, the text goes to the Chamber of Deputies, unless there is an appeal for a vote in the Plenary.
Bill 896/2023 , authored by Senator Ana Paula Lobato (PDT-MA), defines misogyny as conduct that manifests hatred or aversion towards women, based on the belief in the supremacy of the male gender. The proposal amends the Racism Law ( Law 7.716 of 1989 ) to classify misogyny as a crime of discrimination. According to the bill, the first article of the law will now read: "Crimes resulting from discrimination or prejudice based on race, color, ethnicity, religion, or national origin, or committed on the basis of misogyny, will be punished in accordance with this Law."
