TL;DR of the situation is in addition to ALPRs being an end-run around the 4th Amendment, the companies who make these devices can't secure them for shit, bribe public officials to get them installed and have showed zero proficiency in actually deterring crime.
So the problem is the automation right? If a security camera catches your license plate and they look it up is that still a go around of the 4th amendment?
