So my neighbor was telling me about how she started reading the Koran a few months ago and became obsessed and converted. I asked since I noticed her wearing a hijab. She was raised Catholic and became an atheist in her teens and when I first met her she was the typical leftist. Now, people are free to live as they want but for some reason white leftist women becoming Muslims reminds me of young people who claim to be lgbt. There seems to be some people who think it is very trendy to be oppressed and to be a part of what they perceive as an oppressed group is even better for them.
She had all the leftist tendencies (white guilt, super pro choice, lgbt ally, etc.). I wanted to ask her if she is aware that all the positions on social issues that she criticized the church for having are condemned in Islam as well if not stronger. I decided not to ask her about that but it does strike me as odd for leftist women to attack the church but then convert to Islam and don't see any issue. Maybe she is like "progressive" Christians who will tell you that the Bible doesn't condemn anything.
I heard in Europe there are a number of white women converting and I saw the message board of a lady in Sweden I think who said she converted and then her sisters did along with her best friend. Sorry, but that sounds like people jumping on something trendy since they hate the western world, this is the perfect way to show it I guess.
On the bright side, my neighbor did say she wants to read the Bible and asked if I could help her and answer some questions.
Abortion is one of those items where it doesn't matter the religion (including Islam) nor their individual piousness, some women will find a way to justify it simply due to being female.
Even when dealing with a theoretical situation where you explicitly state nobody was raped, they can't be consistent with their view on that versus other moral quandaries like pornography.
Yup, there's so many interviews where the interviewer will say okay abortions for rape, incest, poverty, but nothing else. And women will still say all abortions are good.
