I've made a point since I started working and living on my own to keep lifestyle creep to one-off purchases and not monthly commitment. I actually looked at it when I left my corporate job, and the downside limit was essentially I could work a low income service job and food still goes on the table and clothes on my back and anything I had beyond that lifestyle the banker would not be coming for.
