They were eugenicists who put less desirable peoples into the camps, and because of that all thought vis a vis genetic selection for desirable traits is highly charged. Science is having a very hard time trying to investigate the genetic links to intelligence because of the stink of eugenics.
China does not have this emotional baggage, of course, so they do it as a matter of course.
Fun fact, Germany got the idea from the USA around the turn of the century when those with undesirable traits and conditions were being sterilised. The Germans being Germans increased efficiency.
I think that is coming to China no matter what. I don't trust any data China releases, but I do see videos of people who go over there, and places that used to be crowded are now deserted.
