He wasn't doing it out of some sort of justified crusade. He was doing it out of petty spite.
Well, they did out the guy. I mean, if a group of people put out a gay list now they'd be roasted on the news for all eternity for doing it.
But it was perfectly okay at the time, I guess, which pissed him off.
