Lots of 2D Sidescrollers/Metroidvanias.

Castlevania. Legacy of Kain. God of War. All metroidvanias now.

They're all being handled by indie studios, and as much as AAA sucks, indie developers are just as hacky, it's either rogue-likes or Metroidvanias with them with blocky pixel art.
