GamerGate established a boundary of media overreach.

Since the 50s and certainly the 60s the elites have gained fantastic control over the normies by controlling TV and other mainstream media. TV, with the bright colors and information dense programs has been able to effectively speak to the emotions of the low information viewers in a way that print news never could.

Gaming Media should have been an outstanding success. For years Console 'Tards had been yumming up everything presented to them by the gaming news. Preorders paid for the development budget of a AAA game and gave a healthy profit margin. Every sale after the first month was just gravy.

Gaming magazines and then gaming websites positioned themselves as the taste-makers, gatekeeping a market that was bigger than Hollywood, TV and sports combined. The gaming press told Console 'Tards what to consume, and how exited to get for the next product to consume.

But it steadily stopped working. For a few reasons, tone sure, but the GamerGate scandal was a big one.

GamerGate lead directly to the adpocalyse. Advertisers suddenly wanted nothing to do with gaming content and the scandal. YouTube changed their interface and let advertisers opt out of anything to do with gaming. Gaming YouTube channels became non viable, unless they were showing either Minecraft or Fortnight. Native advertising went from a value of more than 100 million for some games to nothing at all. The advertising rate for gaming magazines and websites suddenly dropped to less than half.

In the aftermath AAA titles began to fail. Battlefield One flopped. Partly because it wasn't good, but mostly because gaming media had shat the bed.

Suddenly in weeks the gamers had organized, and before the powers could clamp down on them they had formed a consumer movement that had ended media empires and changed the face of games publishing.

The elites didn't see it coming. They don't know how to control the situation, and GamerGate certainly paved the way for other grassroots movements like the MAGA Americans.
