It has a religious character to it. Historically, any time you have a large group of people working hard against their own interests, it was due to religious fervour. The same is true today, of course, and you can see religious conviction in those people who go out itching for a fight against ICE. They are gripped by a moral impetus that is completely divorced from rationality or logic.
It is missing a divinity and proper religious texts. You can make a point that White Fragility it's kind of a religious text but it's more the word of a priest rather then divinity since they have no divinity.
edit: I think "science" is closest they get to religious "texts". Climate change, social books on gender or sex etc. you can't oppose or make fun of "settled science" so I guess it fits.
Yes "Science!" Is their religious set of texts. You're not allowed to question, criticize, or otherwise go against it. The only people allowed to read it or interpret it must be part of the Priesthood (a scientist) and even then any deviations from the norm are heresy.
