Because it's actually a real threat and the Navy didn't have an answer for it in the "Millenium Challenge", in which the USMC general in charge of faux-Iran OpFor exposed that the navy had little to no defense against co-ordinated, organized, zero-electronic communication, simultaneous attacks with combined missile bombardment. Let's look at the losses:
Modern anti-ship missile technology, and anti-ship drone technology has wildly improved in 24 years. Our fleet's defensive capacity has improved, and we have absolutely deadly anti-ship drone missiles of our own.
However, Carrier's are not nearly as safe as they used to be.
That is true, also it is much more technically difficult and expensive to defend than attack when it comes to missile warfare.
The good old CRAM's are as inexpensive as anti-missile defense gets, but it can only take down smaller missiles, at close range, with limited success.
