I guess Trump, or his advisors, figure that either there's too much Chinese influence in EU institutions to make the Danes a reliable partner, or that it's just easier with the US in exclusive control.
For the record, I'm not advocating for a forcible annexation of Greenland. I think it would be extremely stupid to deploy the US military against a NATO ally, if he actually is serious about doing that. But I can see why he wants it.
I mean it seems easier to just lean on the Danish to expand the US base, rather than annex the whole landmass, but what do I know.
