It's not a cult. Successful military operations get support from the general public. This was one of the least heavily supported military operations going back decades, regardless of it's initial (startling) success.

As Mark Mitchell said, many of Trump's policies are actually more popular than Trump. Even military policies. Foreign policy adventurism actually doesn't help you in the polls (Tail-Wags-The-Dog doesn't actually work in reality); but it can destroy you in the polls if you fuck it up. Truth is that Trump is being distracted by people who are happy to sink the admin after the mid-terms in order to prevent domestic policy improvements while he has the most momentum.

Trump can win the midterms, but he needs tangible economic gains, better messaging, less DOJ black-hole failures, and for congressional Republicans to literally anything ever.
