He absolutely was trolling, it was crystal clear in that video I saw of it. He stops, makes a (subtle) funny face and says the funny lines in 'deadpan'. He also made a video mocking the people who thought he was being serious too, iirc.
I too just watch the clips. They're entertaining for sure. I doubt I'll ever watch a whole stream, even as background noise.
