I think the reason is simply a mix of arrogance and stupidity.
Neither of the dykes expected to face consequences for their little stunt, much less lethal consequences.
The envisioned themselves as stunning and brave LGBTQ-womyn, fighting the good fight.
"Fuck you, fascists pigs, I'll do what I want, and you can do nothing about it!"
Well, they could, and they did.
The Iranian riots showcase an important part of protest: A lot of them are dead. The "heroes" of revolution are the ones who managed to live long enough while being early enough to be both recognizable figures, and not killed off before that point. They are made in retrospect, not in the moment.
These fools want to be heroes in the moment, with no risk nor danger... nor effort. Instant gratification only.
