No, he was in front, as per latest video footage from the cop himself.
There was another officer on the side, ordering her out of the car, trying to open the door.
Did we watch the same video? He was on the side talking to the other one, then she reversed her car and turned. You can see how much she turns from other videos. She was also looking straight at him when she floors it. Even if he was in front of her car for arguments sake, it wouldn't have made a difference.
You can literally see it in the first second or so of this video. He's on the other side out of view, then as she turns, he's now in front of her vehicle.

The very video on this post, at 37 seconds, the car drives into him and he gets bumped by the car.
Right when the other woman standing outside the passenger's side ( driver's wife ) loudly says ''drive baby drive''.
Right, that's when you see the car moving and turning.
