You know who else preferred Germans? The French!
In (iirc) early 1945 a US correspondent took a poll of French people, mostly women. Who did they prefer? US GIs or the Nazis?
They strongly preferred the Nazis.
Germans spoke French more often, at least they tried to learn it. GIs did not. GIs were rude & prone to drunkenness, violence & rape. & etc.
His report wasn't published until long after the war :/
I just found this amusing. Patton was like Sherman, he understood that his troops were animals; but that was who was needed to win the war & that's all that mattered.
