The proceeds apparently go to funding the Mint, but it still feels weird having them produce money as if for circulation at taxpayer expense, then auction them to a private buyer.
I'm probably reading too much into it, but I'm just so fed up with our government chimera in general.
That said, they should do this more; please, next time you feel like printing a couple billion dollars to further inflation, sell that to collectors instead, for many times the value. And give taxpayers the dividend directly. Pay us to not inflate the money, instead of taxing us to inflate our money. Thanks.

How about we deflate the economy so a dollar can buy things again...
The penny hasn't been a useful piece of coinage in my lifetime and I'm an old man.
