VCs weren't just obliviously giving money to the blatant discrimination in the journalism sector. They were encouraging it. Media turning into a shit show didn't preclude every other white collar industry following suit. Academia hasn't got a track record of following newspapers' staffing criteria. The all just followed the money, taking cues from the same VCs and other monied interests at the same time.
Yeah, if our Current Year dystopia was simply achieved via Facebook monetizing clickbait/ragebait 15 years ago, the current cultural paradigm wouldn't only be dominated by gay race communism.
There also would've been a counterbalance with either RW fake news targeted at commies or absurd degeneracy slop targeted to make trad America mad.
But all it's been is one-sided ratcheting with ever-more-grotesque tankie takeover.
