As someone from the area who saw a lot of what didnt get to the news, it wasnt "controlled op". It was "grifting lawyers." The entire family were lawyers who used a ton of loopholes to create a "church" so they could avoid paying taxes, and then since they knew all of the laws they would deliberately goad people into attacking them and then sue those people sure in the knowledge they were going to win (this was how they made most of their money).

More than once they got caught on hidden cameras admitting that they didnt believe anything they were saying and it because they knew it was the quickest way to get people attakcing them, which made for easy lawsuits.
