I'm leaning this way as well. Im more lonely/isolated than I can put into words and I've never had even a slight desire to do this. And I've spent a fair amount of time chatting with GPT/Grok. I usually just use it to ask non PC questions, sharpen my rhetoric etc, but I've used it for a bit of personal stuff as well and still not even a little bit of desire to do this. I just don't understand the appeal. If this number is accurate society is already doomed
I use it entirely to help research certain problems I’m having, so maybe I’m the odd one out but using a giant weighted matrix algebra field as emotional support has always looked foolish to me.

Almost every instance I've seen of this happening, its people specifically chatting to a formulated version of Asuka, or Rick, or a very specific celebrity/fictional crush instead of just falling into flirting with general idea. The kind of thing that can draw in lonely people, rather than lonely people deliberately seeking it out.

Waifuism is one flavor of it, but it probably goes beyond that. I can only imagine the amount of lonely women from the Superwholock fandom gooning to their endless chat with one of those boys. Or trannies living out AGP lesbian fantasies they can never get in real life. Etc. Etc.
The numbers are very obviously cooked, as I broke down below, but for the people who do end up this way its not just "loneliness" as the factor. Its people who are likely lonely for a reason and that root cause also leaving them willing to do things like this.
I bet it's not even isolation that is the key factor that leads to using an AI in place of real people. It's being conditioned to enjoy mindless repetition and socialise in the most superficial, self-centred way possible.
Basically it's being a meat NPC that leads to getting it on with the electronic ones, not being lonely itself.
Yeah, I could see that leading to more women doing it too. It makes sense that they want the social aspect in a controlled manner where they can create the other person, craft their persona, and the ai will just tell them whatever they want to hear.
