Martin is actually a perfect symbol of what the writing world has become, from fantasy and sci-fi, to highbrow "Literary Fiction." Scratch the underbelly and it all bleeds the same clout-chasing, lazy, nepotistic, commie blood. All these people are scum with zero values whatsoever beyond "do that which benefits me most, gets me the most fame and money, and makes me work the least, in every possible moment." If that means signing off on an AI sloppa book knowing damn well world class artists would contribute for free, then so be it.
Martin's fall is exactly what you'd expect when viewed from a distance, because it's the same arc dipshit college kids have: be precocious and talented, show your decent work to the right people, get fame and friends because of it, then get high on your own farts and do fucking nothing for decades, squandering away all the goodwill you've earned along the way. Tale as old as time, really.
I couldn't have written it better myself. It's worth noting that Martin is very vocally anti-AI and is currently suing OpenAI for a ChatGPT generated fanfic.
I'm sure he didn't personally sign off on using it for the art but it's telling that it didn't get caught.
I suppose my underlying point is that regardless of his stated (leftist) position on AI, either through laziness and ignorance or sheer hypocricy, he has allowed his life's work to be debased and whored like the women he loves to write about. All for fame and money, neither of which will save the legacy of SoIaF.

Which would be frivolous
